Love them or hate them but social media platforms have a real impact on the number of people you can reach, and attract to your business. It can be an incredibly impactful tool in your marketing efforts but the competition is high because of the big brands who are able to dedicate an entire team and lots of cash to constantly create engaging content, and innovate with new trends. And it’s this high quality content that people also expect when they scroll through your social media posts too. Now, as a complementary healthcare practitioner I don’t believe you must have a presence on social media. If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. I’m a proponent of being on social media in an authentic way; if you have just five branded posts on your account that introduce you and promote your offering - great! If you enjoy posting abstract behind the scenes pictures of your days in clinic, fantastic. Or perhaps it’s your jam to create educational posts that include long form content on different health topics - go for it! If you’re looking to reach new audiences I encourage you to have some kind of presence on at least one social media platform. Pick your favourite and make that your place to be.
However, if you do decide to spend your time crafting an active social media presence - it better pay off. Because let’s be honest, it’s the worst feeling when you spent hours coming up with content ideas, creating the content, and posting it online without seeing any result. Anything you post on social media is easily scrolled past, Instagram Stories disappear after 24hrs, and our attention span is at an all-time low of 7 seconds. So here’s the public secret to make the most of your time on social media: it’s actually to move away from it.
Now, we don’t want to give up on social media entirely, but instead find effective ways to invest our time. And the easiest way to stop wasting time on social media, is to make the most of the precious time and energy you spend on there and repurpose the content you share onto different platforms. Whether you copy your social media content onto your newsletter, flyers, presentations or educational content you share with clients you see in clinic - and it works the other way around as well. This way, you’ll get more out of the content you create in engagement with your audience, and thus the results you want to see in your practice growth.
Maybe you write long form Instagram posts, capture moments in clinic with engaging captions, host interviews with colleagues, or have a beautiful selection of testimonials to share. All of that content should be used beyond your social media accounts to maximise your efforts! A few examples to repurpose this content onto are a website blog that will last forever (or let’s say a year or two before you update it), a newsletter that you send out to your clients (more on that in this edition), or a presentation you do for a corporate that you can split into 3 different Instagram posts.
This way your content can now be found by future blog readers (which can be anyone in the world who Googles the topic of choice if your SEO is set up properly), your newsletter audience will receive it straight into their Inbox and the audience at your presentation who might not even follow you on social media will share it with their circles too. Even if there’s overlap in these different audiences that’s absolutely fine. Research shows the average prospect needs to hear a message seven times before they take action, so keep sending those messages out on all the different channels and don’t worry too much about repeating yourself. Change the wording to keep it fresh, adjust your tone of voice, and enjoy seeing your content work its magic by reaching many more people than only your social media followers.
